Being a stang lover, i must vote for Bullit and the original Gone in 60 Seconds. The remake of Gone in 60 Secs was good but there isn't anything like the original.

Nobody mentioned "Deathrace 2000". I know they aren't "real" cars (although one looks very much like an sports 2000), but watching them race around the country is great. Besides, how many movies have Sylvester Stallone getting beat up by Carradine (the elder, not the Revenge of the Nerds guy). :-)
Another great racing movie is The Racing Scene with James Gardner. It is a recap of his racing exploits through Sebring, and F5000. Great footage of Lime Rock Park and St Jovite from the '70s.

Thanks for mentioning the Ferrari run though Paris. The best scene was the near-miss of the garbage truck. Ahh Death Race 2000 great flick, favorite part he runs over his own crew and gets points. umm did I say that out loud?
What about The Dukes of Hazzard?
PBS did a over Florida a few years back and showed IT guys going around Sebring. Interesting overhead of the hairpin.

John Schneider., who played one of the main characters in "The Dukes of Hazzard," actually currently owns/has owned several enthusiast cars including at least one Hemi equipped Orange Dodge Charger similar to "General Lee."
He has been running the Silver State Classic since Fall 1999. The first time he entered the car (a copy General Lee), he showed up with BFG DRs mounted on the back, having driven all the way from Los Angeles on them accompanied by his navigator, a CHP acquaintance. Naturally, it would not pass tech on BFG DRs. He had to scour the town of Ely, NV for tires that Saturday afternoon (day before the race). Interesting that apparently the California Highway Patrol officer didn't have a previous clue either. I was having breakfast at the counter of the local casino with them, and he (Schneider) was insistent he planned to run the car on the DRs. Final tech was that afternoon.
He was entered in the 110 mph class. He blew an engine component about half way through the course (right in front of me), as I was working the course. Just goes to show that even celebrities aren't immune to the learning curve.
Bob

Gumball Rally! Grand Prix is probably my favorite though, along with American Graffiti (kind of a "car" movie). Days of Thunder is so cheesy, that I can't resist watching it everytime I happen to catch it on TBS or something. ------------------ Pat '93 Sentra SE-R, DSP/Tracktoy

Wow you guys really know your flicks! I've never met another person that so much as knew there was an original gone in 60 seconds, let alone has actually seen it! A buddy on highschool and I rented it because the cover said "100+ cars destroyed during filming!", or something like that. You can just fast forward to the last chase scene of this one. I've never seen it for rent since and I'd really like to see it again. Gumball rally I've only seen the last few minutes of on TV once. Rendezvous I've heard of, but never seen. The problem with all 3 of these movies is finding them. Renezvous is so rare it's like an urban legend now. If anybody knows where I can get it...? Death Race 2000... At least there's nudity in it... For some god-awful reason I've seen this 5 times. Damn CITY-TV! Grand Prix is of course the ONLY racing movie ever made. All the others are just cartoons with live actors. But I wouldn't call this a car movie. It's realy in a catagory of it's own. My vote would have to go to Vanishing Point. Ronin has the best chase scene of all time, but it's just scene in a non-car movie. Vanishing Point is 2 hours of it. Good stuff. ------------------ Marshall McLean Western Ontario Sports Car Association 97 Prelude Type SH [This message has been edited by Marsh (edited February 02, 2001).]

Comon' guys....Granted, Ronin has a few cool chase scenes, but I have to agree with a few others that it's not a CAR movie. What about semi old-school stuff like Road Warrior or The Wraith? The original Grand Prix is also excellent. The original smokey and the Bandit has cool car stuff and a TON of good one-liners! "Ain't nobody chasin' me boy." "When I get home, the first thing I'm gonna do is smack your momma in the mouth." "That's an attention getter." "You sure seem alot taller on the radio." ------------------ Jellybean Racing #93 1993 Civic Si CSP/IC 2000 NWR Rookie of the Year Sponsored by www.NipponPower.com [This message has been edited by johng (edited February 03, 2001).]

Like at least one person mentioned above, the best car flick is VANISHING POINT starring Barry Newman, Dean Jagger and Cleavon Little. Shoot, it even has "The Ultimate Car Chase Movie!" right there on the video casette sleeve! MM ... ------------------ M. E. I wondered if someone was going to mention "Who am I?"
Let's see, African rally, some great car stuff, although a little stupid at times (come-on...a car on its side spinning, and how do you get the rear tires only on an AWD car to spin, unless it's like early Saabs with a front wheel parking prake.)
But lot's of fun anyway.
Just thought of another stupid car shot in a James Bond movie. In "License to Kill" that stupid Semi-truck wheelie. Someone with too much time on their hands, but not enough intelligence.

Who am I had only one part in the whole movie that was worth watching and that was the part with the Evo IV. I was trying to think of an early ninties movie that I watched in watch the main guy was a stunt car driver and was broken out of a bus on the way to prison by a group that wanted him to be his gettaway driver. The first part he drives a old camero then a chevy van in the next action scene. And last but not least he drives a NSX which was the only reason I remeber the movie. Does anyone remeber this movie?
The only thing I couldn't figure out was how those crown vics kept up with him in the NSX??

The Wraith. Where he drives in the Plymouth prototype pace car. Also in it is a Gen 3 Vette with a super charger.

I know some of it didn't make sense! like when they were almost caught, an they were stuck in the gravel trap and she pulls up the hand brake to hold the car and sprays them with gravel from the rear wheels spinning! how does that work? But what was cool was the way they did the hand brake slide and backed into the parking space only they left too soon! Dopes!!!
