I'm a new Solo II fanatic and since the next practice I could go to is in San Diego at Qualcomm I was wondering what to expect there? In as far as the track layout, any differences I should know about. I heard that they tend to be longer and faster. I have only autocrossed at Hollywood Park. Like I said I'm now an official Autox fanatic, I mean who else would want a scouting report for a PRACTICE! SCCAForums Image

Trys_Hard,
I just started as well, and I joined up along with my B/F, with No $ racing team.

The Q is a great place to race. The course is generally long and has some fast sections. There will always be the tight turns as well. The Q offers two areas in which they make the courses. So you can be on the West side or the East side of the Stadium. The West side area has an elevation change and that makes for some SCCAForums Image racing.

I think you'll like it just as much as Hollywood park and I hope to see ya at the Race on the 18th (I think). I might be wrong but there is the San Diego group and the Cal club group racing on the same weekend.

If your interrested I posted a calendar of events on the Probetalk site under the Southern Cal. Probe Owners heading. It covers every event listed for the Months of Feb. and March. SCCAForums Image

West lot of Qualcomm typically is around 1.1 mile long course. Speeds can be faster than some are used to, but we try to keep it within SCCA guidelines. Typically in my MR-2, I will be in 3rd gear a couple of times or more. A combination of speed and technical is what I try to achieve if I design a west lot course.

This is my car on course on the west lot, the video is cut off, it's actually longer: http://www.sdstreetracing.com/media/videos/011500_10.asf

The surface is pretty grippy asphalt. Not quite concrete, but not bad at all. To get signed up for a practice, you need to be a member of the local autocross association (signed up for a car number) and respond very quickly to the mailers. The practice events typically are reserved and sell out rapidly.

This is the schedule: http://www.sdr-solo2.com though the server is down right now.

Hope that helps!

OK,
Autocross at the Q sure is fun. Nice long course and fast. If you were at the practice today, what was your time and Class. My best time was a 69.461 Class ES.
