"P. Any metal clutch assembly, metal flywheel, or metal torque converter
that uses the standard attachment to the crankshaft may be used.
Non-metallic friction surfaces (e.g., clutch disks) are permitted. Dowel
pins may be added. Any hydraulic clutch line may be used. Replacement
or substitution of the clutch slave cylinder is permitted, but
this does not allow non-original methods of clutch actuation (e.g. pull
type versus push type)."

The rule reads as such.  Any clue why it's there?

For example, LT-1 powered 4th Gen Camaro's use a pull type slave cylinder with a clutch fork while the LS-1 powered 4th Gen Camaro's use an integrated throw out bearing/push type slave cylinder. Therefore swapping an LT-1 T-56 tranny into an LS-1 powered car may not be legal even though the cars are on the same line (there's other reason's this wouldn't be legal such as having to change the LT-1 tranny input shaft to an LS-1 input shaft).

I know that doesn't answer your question as to why it's there, but here's an example of what it does prevent.

That restriction has been there forever.  Back before people were using two-discs and such.  My guess is that things have escalated so much since those early days that it is outdated.  Have a chat with Stan and see if he can shed some light, as he was on the SEB the last time the whole clutch thing was looked at for SP.

It was there from the C4 corvette BSP corvette days, maybe even pre LT1 motors.  One of the trick clutch setups required a switch from pull to push style actuation.  At the time that was considered too much of a change for SP, and no existing wording was there to make it clear.

it's there just to prevent us from running tilton carbon-carbon clutches.  :-p

exedy carbon-carbon is ok though because they have the patent on pull type clutch diaphrams.   LOL
