4 Replies and 74 Views Brand New to Auto-X, Want to drive my own car but im confused a bit about classing  74  4 Started by  GSRVic I just co-drove my first event last weekend and now that i have gotten my feet wet id like to look into putting my own car on the auto-x course So I've read the .pdf a few times, asked my buddy and still having a hard time figuring out how to class my car, or if it will even be legal in the Touring class. Id like some friendly advice and if you think I'm wasting my time with this car feel free to express that opinion The car is by outward appearance a 1997 honda civic (00 front clip) M...

2 Replies and 701 Views Honda insight SMF clarification  701  2 Started by  Paul Hello all, Couple of us at the local club where wondering if swapping the drivetrain on a early G1 insight, leaving the interior but removing the batteries would keep the insight in SMF The removal of the hybrid system was what was in really in contention. Car would still weigh roughly the same with more foward bias. Anyone have any thoughts on this. Im tempted to build a g1 for smf to compete locally. Thanks Paul

2 Replies and 1511 Views Honda S2000 seats  1511  2 Started by  gen3rcr have a 2004 S2K and will be autocrossing it, while keeping it as an occasional street toy. I want to install a lower, and lighter driver's seat that is also compatible with the OEM seat belts, as well as retaining use of the middle glove box. I would like to be able to mount the seat on a slider, too.... What do you all suggest Thanks!

(Topic has multiple pages1 2 3 4 )
In this months fasttrack I saw something I didn't quite expect to see: 12465 STS & STC Combining Proposal The STAC has provided the following proposal for member review and feedback: Effective 2015, all cars currently classed in STC will be re-classed to STS. I personally have no dog in this fight as I don't run STC or STS and don't plan to any time in the near future. However here are my feelings. On the surface this makes sense, the CRX Si which is pretty dominant in STS and the '89-...

4 Replies and 4260 Views FWD Tire Choice  4260  4 Started by  sjrobinson I have a 97 Accord. It's front wheel drive and little heavier than most FWD autocross cars. So I'm looking into what I can do to help my times. One thing I'm thinking about is my tires. But budget limits that. Right now I have 215/45/17 dunlops that are pretty nice. I was wondering if I could get away with throwing two competition tires on the front at 225/40/17. That would slightly increase acceleration with a smaller tire diameter, increase steering response with a smaller sidewall, an...

11 Replies and 931 Views Engine swap classification question  931  11 Started by  CorneCob I have an 1984 BMW 318i with the vastly under powered 1.8l M10 engine. The car has upgraded sway bars, autox springs, Bilstein shocks, front camber plates, and 15x7 wheels with 200 tread wear BFG tires. With these modifications I understand the car will compete in STS with cars that make a whole lot more power. My question is if I were to swap an M42 engine (4 cyl, 138hp) from a 89-91 model of 318i in the E30 generation would I loose my ability to run in Street Touring As I understand it is ...

5 Replies and 472 Views classing assistance  472  5 Started by  Gerald Hey all. I'm new here after doing a kc regional event a couple weeks ago. I have a 2013 Chevy Cruze that I took out and did better than expected in. Right now, I'm just concerned with classing restrictions. It got listed as H street even though I have a tune installed on it that gave about 38-45hp over the stock 134 crank output. This, I think actually makes me just competitive in the HS class versus Fiesta st and scion tc's, but I know its not right. I should be in STF if I read right in th...

2 Replies and 454 Views Magnus effect aero  454  2 Started by  the3lracer So one of my friends running in SSM is toying with the idea of creating a rear wing designed to make use of the Magnus effect ( This would be, in some way, powered by an electric motor (I'm guessing some sort of belt-driven system). The system would spin at a constant velocity and could not be switched on/off while the vehicle is in motion. The $10,000 question is, would this be legal in SSM (or any class, for that matter) if it could fit into all...

1 Replies and 572 Views Best Tire for STS Miata  572  1 Started by  JsnMR2 I'm tired of beating on my daily driver, a 2015 Audi S3 that I am currently running in ASP because of my APR stage 2 tune. That being said, I'm buying a friends fully prepped STS Miata. I ran a 50.1 in my S3 at the last event, while the owner of this miata ran a 50.07. He let me do two fun runs in it, and I ran a 52 followed by a 50.7. I feel I had some room to grow still being that I never drove a Miata before. It currently has 200 tread wear 195/50/15 RS3's on it. Last year, he ran 140 ...

1 Replies and 997 Views STS 90 Civic Si Radio Delete  997  1 Started by  Cagare I have recently built a 90 Civic Si to STS class. Currently we have a few last motor items to do like a high flow cat, and a lightweight pulley. We are currently trying to do a weight reduction program and we are targeting the stereo and speakers. Can anyone comment to me on the legality of removing the stereo and speakers from the car. I know this was an option from the factory back in 90 when the car was purchased but I was not sure if we could remove it from a car that already has one. ...

2 Replies and 1838 Views '02 Impreza in STS?  1838  2 Started by  RedGT Is there a history to why the '02-'04 Impreza 2.5 (nonturbo) is not classed in ST* I would have thought it to be marginally (or maybe a lot) slower than the '98-'01 generation 2.5RS, which is classed in STC, now STS, and therefore no harm in throwing it in there. Am I overlooking some reason the '02 was expected to be too fast for the same class, or was it just overshadowed by the WRX from that generation on and no one ever asked for an ST classing

6 Replies and 2457 Views Question regarding STX WRX (2015)  2457  6 Started by  Mr. K Hi everyone, Long time autocrosser in San Diego running a STX Prepped E36 325i Sedan. As the e36 is aging pretty rapidly, I figured, I'd pick up a class ready car from the factory, so I picked up a 2015 Subaru WRX which will EVENTUALLY be a STX backup car. Since in STX you can't raise the boost pressure (I think this is true for any ST car with a turbo), what potential tuning source could be used The ever popular one is the Cobb V3, but I don't want potential rumors filling the paddock...

10 Replies and 2824 Views Clarification on strut bar mounting rules in STX  2824  10 Started by  Christian Hi, I am looking for some clarification on the strut bar rules in street touring. There are some strut bars available for the Golf V, which would need a minor cut out on the upper firewall to be properly mounted. In the rules below it says 'This does not permit any modifica-tions to the frame or unibody beyond the allowed mounting holes.' Does 'mounting holes' just refer to holes for mounting bolts or also for holes for strut bar clearance There is pretty much no way in installing a strut bar ...

9 Replies and 2684 Views Tire size advice- STS Integra  2684  9 Started by  DeltaV I'm currently embarking on a project to build a 98 Integra RS for STS. I'm stuck between two tire sizes: 205/50/15 and 225/45/16, both on a 7.5in wheel. The way I see it: 205/50/15: Shorter gearing, lighter, come to temperature quicker, cheaper. Not as many tire choices, larger sidewall, risk of overheating with the heavier car. 225/45/16: More tire choices, more tire for the heavier car, shorter sidewall. Taller gearing, heavier, may take a few runs to come to temp, more expensive...

6 Replies and 3251 Views 2015 WRX Classing STX or STU?  3251  6 Started by  stevesnow I know that 2008-2014 WRX's are officially in STU... which puts them at a disadvantage obviously... I am wondering if the 2015 may be able to squeak in as an STX The STX class does have a 2.0L engine max rule that I think may allow the 2015 WRX sneak back into Although I have no slue what I am talking about lol. Could we get some official rulings here Or at least as many people's opinions as possible or back-up for said opinions Thanks!
