I'm of the mind set that the lighter the better. IE : a small block  ( 289-351w )  in say a 65 Mustang  coupe.  My friend would like to go say a big block ( 428-460 ) in a bigger / heavier Mustang ( 71-73 ).  If your of the mind set that 'torque matters most' , then a big block delivers more of that and soon...

I have not participated much in official races but enjoy driving, modifying, watching and in general consuming all things automotive. I am not the biggest gearhead or tuner out there as I do not have the know-how to do my own full builds or how to race the fastest lap around a real track. I do however have a YouTube Cha...

0 Replies and 518 Views Race America Timing systems FOR SALE  518  0 Started by  GoGators   We are selling what remains of two full Race America (RA) timing systems. We switched to Farmtek and have no need for the equipment.   Using parts of the two full sets, one set of equipment is still functional. When new the equipment cost ~$7k. We are asking $1000 OBO (plus shipping).   The newer AC4 timing console appears to be throwing error codes (6 & 8) and the T-Link wireless transmitter batteries do not hold a charge.  Correct those issues and the...

1 Replies and 532 Views Looking to get into autocross in central Iowa  532  1 Started by  OUTLAWS85 I'm want to get into Autocross this coming spring, I have read into the minimum safety requirements as far as tires, suspension, and having a vehicle in good condition but have some more questions. I have a 2005 Ford Mustang GT w/a 5 speed manual transmission with really low miles and is in great condition. It has the basic upgrades such as cat back exhaust, off road x-pipe, cold air intake, aftermarket ECU program. As it sits now what class would my car qualify for Also it has basic 255 35R20 ...

1 Replies and 618 Views Old Race Tracks near St. Louis  618  1 Started by  John D When I was a kid in the early '70s, my dad would take us to a sports car track in the St. Louis area.  My parents were divorced and we didn't live here, so I didn't spend much time in St. Louis.   I remember that drives would drive their cars to the events.  They just needed three point harnesses, a roll cage and a fire extinguisher.  Many would just slap on a magnetic number. I remember watching Formula V there. Does anyone know where a track like that might have been in ...

2 Replies and 589 Views Hello  589  2 Started by  falkin42 Hello. I don't normally join or post on forums but this seemed like the place I should be a member of. I don't have any racing experience or a car I'm really ready to dedicate just yet but once I pass the Bar exam and I'm able to start making real people money I plan to get a second car and begin a life of tires and oil. I suppose my first question for y'all is what car I should be looking at getting. I've had almost exclusively front drive cars in my daily driving, so I'd like to learn on a...

As of 9pm we were updated that...

3 Replies and 1349 Views How do I turn an SCCA racecar into a road legal vehicle?  1349  3 Started by  Fred Hey guys! I'm new here, and I know you guys usually do the exact opposite of what I'm trying to do, but I figured someone on here might be able to point me in the right direction.... I have an opportunity to buy a very clean 1987 Volkswagen. Its been a track car all of it's life and the current owner has described it as 'Production Racecar' and indicated that it does not have a title (and I would assume no VIN). If I bought it, I would receive the car with a bill of sale and that's it. As much ...

4 Replies and 1450 Views Budget for f-street  1450  4 Started by  Tim I run in f-street 2014 Mustang 3.7L auto. I plan on getting new tire(Bridgestone) and wheels for this year. Plus I was thinking of adding front sway bar or shocks/struts. Any opinions on which will be more beneficial per cost. I'm also thing of running in STP class which would allow wider wheels and tires. That would put me in a class where more modifications can be made. I plan on only doing tires, shocks/struts and sway bar as money will allow. Would the wider tires be worth moving to a di...

1 Replies and 860 Views Camber Bolt Guidance on 05 STI  860  1 Started by  Katie785 I installed my Whiteline camber bolts (front) last night. I was at first going to put them in the lower strut mount, but to achieve negative camber, the directions say to have the large tab on the washing facing the hub. There is a (knuckle) bolt there that it hits and will not sit flush with the strut mount. Any pros/cons to putting the bolt in the top mount It seems it's not as adjustable then. Safety concerns Possible to just put the bolt in the lower hole, but backwards (meaning put the b...
