0 Replies and 49 Views Full Open - No Windshield Miatas?  49  0 Started by  JESfromASC Running local hillclimb events (NC) and after the last one decided to bite the bullet and dropped the windshield on my Miata. I know there are entire series that run that way. Couple issues I now have: 1) Recent track day (over 90 - 100 MPH) things get pretty squirrelly with helmet buffeting. I went ahead and fabricated a pretty good poly windshield that I can pop in and out, but curious how the rest of you deal with it 2) Curious about general aero changes/fixes Like the helmet the car se...

I have not participated much in official races but enjoy driving, modifying, watching and in general consuming all things automotive. I am not the biggest gearhead or tuner out there as I do not have the know-how to do my own full builds or how to race the fastest lap around a real track. I do however have a YouTube Cha...

0 Replies and 389 Views Help me build my dream car!  389  0 Started by  ericmcah Hello SCCA forums! To start: this is my first post here, so please let me know if I should be doing anything different in the future. My situation:  I go driving on gravel roads for fun, but I drive a normal 2005 Ford Focus ZX5 and get worried about abusing the stock components because there are plenty of potholes, and steep uphill/downhill sections. I would be happy to keep the Focus and modify it, including lightweighting it, but I won't be heart broken over selling it, either. My bu...

2 Replies and 8785 Views Spotted unknown car?  8785  2 Started by  WilliamMer This car was a very expensive looking roadster/sport. It had roundish tail lights that were kinda flattened at the top and bottom. It was single exhaust and 2 door. The headlights looked like they stuck up a little bit from the body and weren't sleek with it. It also didn't appear to have a logo on it and the only branding on the car was these two silverish plates on the trunk (that happened to be just above my headlight cut off line so I couldn't read it without hi-beaming the guy). It also had...

I have nearly rebuilt it but now the MSA UK are saying they wont allow the type of rollcage that is in it. It has the Halo type and they dont have this design in the rule book over here. They said they would except it if I could get a FIA ASN certificate for that design. Can anyone help me and point me in the right direction to try and get one. 0 Replies and 425 Views Snell 2015 Helmet Question  425  0 Started by  toy4speed   Hi, looking for a new helmet, a snell 2015 model.  Seems like the exterior size of the 2015 cert helmets are larger than my old 2005 helmet.  Is this due to increased safety requirements  Are there some brands of open face helmets anyone recommends that are more compact, yet still 2015 certified  I prefer open face, but might consider closed if a comfortable fit with glasses.  Thanks!

4 Replies and 6710 Views Old Race Tracks near St. Louis  6710  4 Started by  Mtowner405 When I was a kid in the early '70s, my dad would take us to a sports car track in the St. Louis area.  My parents were divorced and we didn't live here, so I didn't spend much time in St. Louis.   I remember that drives would drive their cars to the events.  They just needed three point harnesses, a roll cage and a fire extinguisher.  Many would just slap on a magnetic number. I remember watching Formula V there. Does anyone know where a track like that might have been in ...

5 Replies and 7830 Views Budget for f-street  7830  5 Started by  Manatee I run in f-street 2014 Mustang 3.7L auto. I plan on getting new tire(Bridgestone) and wheels for this year. Plus I was thinking of adding front sway bar or shocks/struts. Any opinions on which will be more beneficial per cost. I'm also thing of running in STP class which would allow wider wheels and tires. That would put me in a class where more modifications can be made. I plan on only doing tires, shocks/struts and sway bar as money will allow. Would the wider tires be worth moving to a di...
