I don't see why the v8 swap would make you ineligible for xp. St seems highly unlikely in my opinion. You could maybe do sm if you could get it in there without messing with stock subframe too much.

The bigger issue is if the drivetrain orientation is changed from FWD to RWD. Was the original Carolla FWD?

No engine swaps in ST or CP.
Per my understanding, rebaged cars do not count under the SM engine swap allowance. E.g. You can't swap a Chevy engine into your Corrolla just because Chevy sold a rebagded Toyota as the Nova. Thats why you can't swap Ford small block V8's into Miata's despite they fact they were availible in Mazda's rebadged version of the Explorer (and Mazda & Ford have some fairly strong corporate ties).
For XP, if you can get it to fit without cutting up the car you should be OK. Otherwise you are going to be in EM.

^If I am not mistaken then new engine swap rule passed for SM for 2012 that allows engine swaps from other makes.

Not the clearest rule, but definately no unlimited swaps in SM:
D. Drivetrain and related components (induction, ignition, fuel systems, etc.) are unrestricted except for the following limitations:
1. Engine block must be a production unit manufactured and badged the same as the original standard or optional engine for that model. Badges that exist as marketing aliases for the manufacturer will be recognized as equivalents. Swaps involving makes related only at a corporate level are not recognized as equivalents. Models produced as a joint venture between manufacturers may utilize any engine from any partner in the joint venture, provided that an engine from the desired manufacturer was a factory option in that particular model (e.g. Eagle Talon available originally with either a Mitsubishi or Chrysler engine, may use any motor from Chrysler or Mitsubishi). This allows engine blocks manufactured as production units for sale in other countries such as Japan or Germany.

XP or EM with the V8.
In XP I imagine you'd have to ballast up quite a bit to get to 2340 lbs (assuming a 5.7 liter motor), but in EM you could run it at 1700 lbs. or so...
More interesting in my mind is the new 2000cc boxer motor coming in the Scion/Subaru thing... In SM with that motor, 275 tires and a solid rear axle, you'd only have to weigh 1950 lbs.

I was thinking of the often forgoten baby LS used in trucks 4.8 ltr. and alluminum too, can get one realy cheep, but the subie boxter is too wide to sit between the rails, but the car it comes in looks like it will be very competitive, cant wait to see one in person.
