    Tires for EP CRX

Thanks for the input on the battery. I have been running Hoosier 225-45/13 on light (about 8lb)  10"  wheels  in csp. Since I have a new unmounted set  I will probaby use them for now but what is the recommendation for tires in EP. I am not too worried about life of the tire as much as maximizing grip.

I assume that the 225/45-13 Hoosier is a DOT radial, like the A6.  As for your 10" wide wheels:  17.4 Wheels regulates wheel width.  Any wheel greater than 7" in width and up to 10" in width incurs a 75 lbs weight penalty and wheels greater than 10" in width incur a 150 lbs penalty.  Considering the weight penalty and the avialble sizes of slicks, most EP CRXs are running 13x7 wheels with cantilever slicks in either 20x8x13 or 20x9.5x13.   You would want to use one of the softer compounds available.  For Hoosier its the R25A or R35.

I rechecked and the wheels are 9". So the 75 lb penalty is severe compared to the extra width tires and wouldn't be worth it?

Well, you can run the 20x9.5x13 cantilever on 7" wide wheels and not incure the weight penalty.  Or you can run one of the non-cantilever slicks (which is in the 9" to 10" wide range) or the 225/45-13 A6 (which are nominally 9" wide) on your 9" wide wheels and incur the penalty.  So the question isn't how wide the tires are as they are all pretty much in the same ballpark.  Instead its which tire is faster on your EP CRX.   Right now, it looks like the 20x9.5x13 cantilever Hoosier slick on a 13x7 wheel is the best choice.  The tire is as fast or faster than the other two and doesn't incur the weight penalty.

spoke with Hoosier Tom today and he recommended 20x9.5 on the front and 20x8 on the rear. Any comments?

Also, Hoosiers or Goodyear. Tom was partial to the Goodyears.
