    Hoosier A6 problem - splitting

I took a set of 285 Hoosiers to the tire store to have them turned inside out.  When I arrived for pick-up they said they needed to show me something they found.  One tire had three splits in the sidewall exactly 9 inches apart.  I changed the tires at the track and loaded them to take them to the Auto Tire.  I may have overlooked it but it seems suspicious to me but I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt first because they would have been on the inside.  They had about 35 runs on them and not a problem.   Anyone ever have this problem with splitting?  Anything Auto Tire could have done to cause this and then corrected their mistake?  The other three tires were fine after being turned inside out.

Any help appreciated and contact info for the Hoosier tech guy mentioned in the forums in the past would be good too.  Thanks.

Well, I've let my sponsors know about this and I'll let you know what they say.

FYI, I was the kid in the Corolla in KC.

Yeah, I remember the Corolla in KC.  Let me know what you find out.  I sent Jeff Speer at Hoosier the pics.  Thanks.

Hey Kev   do you mind if I do a back to back of my 3 and your XRS at the friday warmup for the tour?   I'd like to do 1-2 runs to see how your car feels.  :)

Just don't let him change your tires.  He's jack challenged.....

The car owner, which is not me didn't like the idea. Sorry. You'll see her on Friday and have seen her before.

The way the arrangement works, I'm almost like a pro driver. Someone else owns the car but I drive it like its mine.

Oh yeah, the car owner is jack challenged too. She dropped the car off the jack at a divisional.

Thankfully someone had a shop jack and the car was a in position where we could jack it off the ground again.

Eberline gives me stick about it all the time though I had nothing to do with it.

Re: Hoosier A6 problem - splitting

Splitting on sidewall for A6 is a well documented issue for certain batches that were improperly transported during the winter freeze.  See Baautox.com and search for thread titled "Tire Rack = Good" under General Autocross Discussion for more detail on the positive outcome if bought from TireRack.  Can't get the direct URL link to work.

Re: Hoosier A6 problem - splitting

The folks at Hoosier made good on this issue.  Great people, great product!  Word to the wise - Do not order A6 tires in December, January and February.  If they are shipped from the tire distributor and the truck encounters subfreezing temps this could happen.  Many people knew of this issue but many still do not.  Thanks again, Hoosier.
