Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
Looks like the main parking lot is about 1300x600 and the eastern lot is about 700x700. Optimistic figures, but may be a good site for at least a year if nothing else can be found. Anyone know if the South area has now been paved? It looks like that is being worked on in the aerial. -Mike

Scratch that...that looks to be a stadium or some sort of building being built at the bottom, not a parking lot... Sorry, thinking out loud... -MK

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
I did an Pcar event this weekend and they said that they were going to have an autocross at The Ballpark in Arlington TX. (between Dallas and Ft. Worth). They said it was cheaper than TMS bus lot. This may be an option

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
lotiman:Not only a new place has to be found, but WHEN.
Since the new location of the Runoffs there also was a movement of when the Runoffs were going to happen. The article stated that the Runoffs were going to be to sometime in September. So WHEN in September is going to be the Runoffs?
My suggestion is with the creation of FJR as a National Solo II class that the Solo II Nationals be moved to the beginning of August like around the first weekend of August. I beleive that most schools are not in session yet as most schools now begin the middle of August this will allow the JR competitors to compete without missing school.
I don't really like the idea of early August for nationals. I'm in the badlands region so north dakota. the northern regions need as much time for setup and practice as possible. mid-late september is just about enough time to have your setup figured out somewhat. august is just too early!

What an EXCELLENT reason to move the date that 1100 other people attend!!! And also, into the country's hearland, in the middle of the hottest time of the year...

The other aspect that seems to continually get overlooked is that if Nationals was not during the school year, families with school age kids could attend a heck of a lot easier. I'm pretty certain attendance would increase if the dates were a little more "family friendly".

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
August is a little early for people who are farther to the north. This weekend way the first weekend of the year that we had 2 days over 70°, so it's a little hard for people around here to get testing done. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying that our season is only a month old, and the temperature is just coming up now.

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
If there wasn't so much of an issue with long tows in inclement weather, I'd say run Nationals in March in a warm location (like Texas)...that way, everyone would be forced to run their prior year's set up and we'd all be on equal footing, Plus, what better way could there be to kick off the autocross season?
I know, it's bassackwards....

That
works great for the warm weather folks that run all year. but no
seat time for 4 months and then immediately running nats is a bad deal.

Mike,
I posted about the Horse Track earlier in the thread....
ratt_finkel:We have two options. Lone Star Park in Grand Praire @ 10k a day. And TMS. And while TMS has the room, good luck getting one of the good lots from them.
Not sure about the Ball Park in Arlginton. I think room might be limited.

After looking at it on Google Maps I think your right the ball park is too small. We need to get the 6 flags lot next to it.

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
looking at the 6 flags st louis schedule they are closed the 21st to the 26th in september as it is. they MAY be interested in letting us host something...have to see what the 2009 schedule would be like, but they aren't open during the weeks once school starts anyways. not sure how the condition of the lot is, but sure looks like their more then enough room

I haven't been out there is years, but I hear that the parking lots at Six Flags St Louis are in very bad shape. I sure wouldn't complain about having the Nationals there if the surface was adequate.

Also, someone mentioned having an event in Dallas in March. No freaking way. The weather is way too unpredictable. It could be 90 or icy.

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
what is this national or pro finale thing you guys keep talking about? have we run one of those before? sure seems like a whole lot of planning and shooting down of ideas is going on here. this must be some really new important thing about to happen and we must accommodate everyone, right?
well someone said that august is too early cuz they dont get enough seat time cuz they live so far up north, so late sept is good. well i live in a tropical climate, so guess what august and sept is like: hot, humid, and it rains everyday in the afternoon but for some reason especially on sundays!!! that means not much practice for me during summer, so sorry, i want it held in june since i've been practicing all winter and spring.
then some people say that it mught bring a lot more folks if we hold it in august since kids are out of school and that makes it easier for parents to make the event. well i dont have any kids so i dont care. not only that but how long would this event last to if, oh..... 2000 people showed up to race? i think you would need quite a few days to host an autox for 2K people! so that would mean quite a bit more planning but since this thread is going to accommodate all the issues that pop up.....
and someone wants to go to a city that has only 600 hotel rooms and figures that is enough to hold 1200 racers plus quite a few wives, kids, girlfriends, mistresses, illegal aliens, pets, inflatable dolls, and imaginary friends. but dont those hotel rooms get partially occupied by regular weekly customers? wouldnt that leave a bit less than the 600 rooms available? oh yeah, there are 1100 rooms an hour or so nearby. cool, i love driving 60 miles to an event. after all i have to drive 1500 to topeka one way, whats another 120 every day with gas prices being as low as they are?
and someone complained about prices being "event prices" when we come to topeka. imagine the nerve of these enterprising capitalists! who do they think we are, tourists or something? wait til they come to SoFla in the winter and expect to get summer prices cuz i'm going to tell all the hotels around here what the topeka folks are doing.
wait a second. are you guys talking about the national solo championship? is this what you guys are planning?
please excuse the sarcasm but i'm a sarcastic son-of-a-biscuit. we all have flaws-that's one of mine. folks, nats doesn't need to be reinvented, just a band aid will do. it's been going and growing to the point where we start at 8 and finish at 6. if you want to make changes to it, please think of what exists and why, and if it would be good for everyone. we used to complain about the broken concrete and now we complain about the sandy asphalt. we will always complain about something. the biggest downside (very big personal opinion here) is that the lot is way too small for nats courses at HPT. this is the biggest event of the year and we run on a lot that is nowhere near adequate. we need a bigger lot!!!!! otherwise everything else is a very decent compromise including the surface; hey, at least you dont have to worry about what line to take! if you think HPT and topeka are bad imagine going somewhere and ending up with a smaller more torn up lot with no paddock or grid space and with no hotel rooms, no nite life or pat's pig.... and a three year deal to stick to!
Hector San Nicolas my last name says i'm a saint, but putting up with lehman will get me sainthood
