Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
motoring:
Several of the questions are hard to answer, but there are comment fields to allow you to explain your priorities.
It is a little scary that this questionaire is just coming out... I would have hoped they were further along in the site search.
I like the one about splitting the event. Open Classes first then two weeks later have the Ladies classes (ducks)

My guess is that they ARE pretty far along. Based on some of the questions, you can see the restrictions that some of the sites they've found present. So they want to know which is less bad.

Awesome. And FJr can run with the ladies, since they'll all need their moms there for them.

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
regarding the survey... splitting the event is a terrible idea. part of the reason solo is solo is because you have social support from your friends who aren't running that heat. this is one thing that seperates us from the road racers.
the thing about the prosolo being held two weeks away, or whatever, that frightens me, too. they must be looking at some small sites.
how upsetting.

no good satellite view, but how about this former bomber base in oklahoma?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ardmore_AFB%2C_OK
it's now a municipal airport and industrial park.
according to the chamber website, apparently michelin has a facility in ardmore that employs 1800.

Or, they are looking at a larger site that has date restrictions. TMS maybe? From the questioning of the survey it looks like Blytheville is in the running.

That Ardmore site does look good. It is plenty big if both aprons are employed.

also, Texas A&M Riverside Campus in Bryan, TX.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Air_Force_Base#Riverside_Campus
If they're already using it for SCCA events, I wonder if it's a consideration...
You can see from the satellite views, there's been courses of various sizes all over it.
from the wiki --
"The campus is also home to several Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) testing facilities used in the areas of vehicle performance and handling, vehicle-roadway interaction, the durability and efficacy of highway pavements, and the safety of structural systems"

Ardmore surface is made of concrete and metal shavings that are rusted. Not good on tires.........
I have someone contacting Nancy about the GM plant in Oklahoma City. The Mayor seems very open to bringing a lot of people to his city. Is this site viable in your opinion???

Can we add F Mod, too?
Matt Murray I am perfectly capable of learning from my mistakes. I will surely learn a great deal today.

A most excellent idea! And GP, too. Now we have grouped all the representative minorities within Solo which require their own places to play: females, kids, people with obnoxious vehicles, and really old people with really old cars. I don't think anybody will miss those folks if they run two weeks later. Well, maybe the females... --Andy

It doesn't look big enough. In addition it has an odd shape. It would be fine for a local event, but unless I'm looking at the wrong site, I seriously doubt this would be a good place. Light poles too...

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
Just throwing this out to see what responce I would get!
Whats the size of the skid pad at the Tire Rack in South Bend? If its not big enough I can understand why no one brought it up!
Is there a possability that the Solo Nationals can be held a some sort of manufactures testing facility? I would assume that a place like that would have a huge skid pad for automobile testing.

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
Interesting, none of the choices for location given in the survey were west of Kansas...
If Nationals is split up, how about one event for stock and ST cars and one for real race cars...

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
My priority list: 1 - Site with a smooth surface with decent grip and big enough to set up two real national level courses. Concrete is not necessary, but an HPT type surface where you have to drive the same line as everyone else is not acceptable. 2 - Keep the groups together. I'll give up watching half the people run, but it had better be a PERFECT site. 3 - Showers. Not necessarily hotels. I'll camp somewhere, but bathing in cold mountain streams is not my idea of a brisk start to the morning. I prefer my 24 oz coffee. That's it. Find #1 and I'll be there. Find #2 and I won't *** about being there. Find #3 and other people won't *** about me being there.
Ahh.. who am I kidding? I'd go if we were in the parking lot of the local 7-11.

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
Howdy,
I took the survey... I think its good that they're asking the questions, though it seems a little odd there wasn't a survey like this right out of the gate?
Anyway, on the entry fee question I needed an option for "willing to pay more than $150, if it gets us a good site, and you can keep the banquets & parties"
On the hotel stuff... If we have an event out in the middle of nowhere, as long as there's room for a bunch of RV's, I think you could make "camping" work pretty well. RV rental isn't cheap, but then neither are hotels... I wonder how much it would cost to make a temporary RV park that had one of those trailer truck sized generators, a "sewer service" truck, and a fresh water delivery truck?
