    I hope you get one.

I am planning on setting the car up with oversteer coming into corners under braking or lift throttle situations. Get a data system if you want to really know what each tire does.

Ask Mitchman how I like my FWD'ers....He has a MiniS. SHHHH!!! Don't tell all my secrets Mitch!

So..how do you think the new Cobalt SS will do in GS? Big Smile

     Stranger things have happened!

Make GS the LSD FWD class and be done with it is one way to fix the oddness.

So, has anyone stumbled across any real information about grinding the struts and how far you can go?  Or if not, has anyone gained any neg camber without grinding?  I have a friend who just picked one up and I'm his alignment guy...

With a 2007 supercharged Cobalt SS that might serve as my "backup car" I started inquiring about the alignment options also.  There is documentation that follows along the lines of what was allowed with the J-Body cars.  The document does specify a range of allowable adjustment and if I didn't carefully review it myself and see it from different sources, I would have been cautious about doing this.  This document does not mention anything about having to replace the front knuckles which were the subject of replacement for competition use.

What I've seen on other Delta chassis cars: The strut tab is essetially a sandwich of two metal stampings pressed together.  One stamping has hole barely large enough for the bolt to pass through.  The other stamping has an ovaled-out hole. You're allowed to grind the small hole to match the larger oval.

Can't confirm this yet on the SS Turbo, but will see if I can find the FSM reference tomorrow.

I don't know what the GMPD mechs did @ nats on my SS, but they got 1.3 out of it with no hammers, grinding, extra parts, or anything... I was IN the car while they did it, so I can't say what they DID do....

Disclaimer - the following is an uncompensated comment.

Look at the top of the page for the Superior Chevrolet link. They will order SCCA members the Cobalt SS of their choice at invoice cost and arrange "courtesy delivery" anywhere in the US. Just thought I would share that tidbit, as I will buy from there if I decide to buy one. The dealership G.M. is an road racing SCCA member and has been very supportive of the surrounding Regions and Division.

Bob... thanks for the info... I am very torn at the moment between a used C5 Z06 and the new SS ( I know it sounds crazy... don't ask ), so not sure what I'll end up doing.

Fall is the time to make tha choice.

I could've used a diff today in Peru...

Looks like Dietz had a solid showing at Wendover in Mike's '08 Cobalt SS, finishing 2nd to Strelnieks. Mike, any word on how Kevin liked the car for a Pro? What tire sizes did you end up going with?

Kevin was in his own car and, I believe, was on 245 Kumhos...and, evidently, was getting killed off the line by the very quick 135i. Interesting data point, though, particularly with the always fast Kinch in the IT-R in a close 3rd spot...I wonder how it would have looked if it had been a Solo II, rather than Pro?

Thanks Mike - I didn't realize Kevin had picked up a Cobalt SS turbo as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was murdered off the line by the 135i - at the Toledo Pro both Beth and Erik were cutting 1.9 60ft's with the car.

Could be an interesting Solo Nationals if they can all make it, i really really wish there was 2 pro's within 12 hours drive so i could attend the finale, but the 18+ hour treks makes them out of reach. My 60 foot on the TT be at or better then a 1.9 that's for sure so that could have been interesting.

I don't think it's the 60' that's the story with the BMW...more like the 200', those things pull HARD once fully spooled up (which is basically from 2000rpm). I drove a 335i recently and was amazed at the linear acceleration rush. Sweet.

Re: New Cobalt SS in DS? If so, does it have a chance?

There could not have been a better course for a BMW, in any class, all transitions with only one slow turn around. If you took out all the excess gates, that were really just hiding more slalom cones, you ended up with like a 27 cone slalom and a 180.

I would not try to use this event as much of data point.... The high altitude really hurts NA cars, particularly those that need to rev Crying. I did not talk to Kevin about his set up, but I doubt the Cobalt is nearly as far along as Erik's 135.

I totally forgot about the air density thing...I do think Kevin and FM have done a fair amount of work on the Slobalt, though.

Re: New Cobalt SS in DS? If so, does it have a chance?

I thought Kevin did ok. Car is NOT set up for concrete and it is a Pro so don't look into the event too much. Interesting that another DS person knocked Erik out of challenge in the first round though.

About the Cobalt: We have been working on it a lot and it is getting better. Not much left to do for set up on asphalt for more speed. I will be running it at Packwood Tour. I think Kevin is going to run his Vette.

Maybe the SEB will move the Cobalt SS/CS/TC to GS for 09? Pretty please? I guess the thing looked like a skyscraper parked next to the TypeR.

And I'm sure your tires looked like Formula 1 tires in comparison to the Type R's...
