    Black Boxea at the Sprints

We will have the Black Boxes available at the June Sprints for SSB and T2 competitors. We are looking for volunteer in these classes to come to Chris Albin’s paddock area and check the boxes out, install them in your car and return them to Chris. Chris will be located in turn #5 space 1F. Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Black Boxea at the Sprints

pardon me for being out of the loop or not having read the proper post/forum/fastrack/etc. to know what is going on, but what is this Black Box all about?

I am currently feeling rather in-the-dark about this mysterious potential addition (pun intended...)

With some transparency in what this is all about (either here or point me in the right direction to get it), I might be willing to put one in.  But without the knowledge of what it is and what the purpose of it is, I wouldn't even put a mysterious black box in someone else's car.

    so please, someone edumacate me!

Re: Black Boxea at the Sprints

Sorry for not being more specific. The SCCA have portable data boxes (DL1s) that can be easily installed in cars to record on track performance.  We have used them at the Runoffs and we thought it would be a good opportunity to make them available at this year Sprints. The uses of the black boxes were not put in the Supplemental Regulations for the Sprints, so we are looking for volunteers to install them in some cars. The data collected is not shared with any of the other competitor, but we can burn you a CD of your own data if you volunteer. If you currently have a DL1 system in your car and would like to share that data, it would be greatly appreciated.

I ran the SCCA black box at the 2006 Runoffs.   It is small, weighs probably 3 lbs and it is self contained without having to be wiring into your car.   It records, accel, decel and g's.   Don't be scared of it.

Chris - so your black box worked? Indifferent

Big Smile  Ya know, come to think of it, I ran a black box in 2006 at the Runoffs as well.  I just remembered it was strapped into the Cobalt SS Supercharged car with your permission as the car owner.  You know, it worked as well.

I also ran the black box at the 2006 Runoffs and it was no problem.  I would have liked to have been given a cd of the recordings however.  That never happened.

I'll miss seeing you folks at the Sprints--no SSB car available and the duties at home quickly filled the empty weekend.  Have a great time at big, beautiful Road America.
