    Newb to R-comps, need advice

So I purchased some Kumho V710s off of another member.  I'll be using them this season during Test-N-Tune events and out of region only, since I am currently running in Road Tire.  Next season I'll be running in DS the entire season.  I got some sound advice as to what tire pressures to run and how to handle the tires, but I'd like more advice, because the more the better.  My car is a 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege, FWD with LSD, running in DS.  Any advice is appreciated.

Rotate the front strut tops to give you max negative camber up front as per the factory manual.

Run a little toe-out in the front.

Run a little to alot of toe out in the back (I ran 1/4" total toe out in the Mazda MP3).

Higher rear pressure will give you a "fast" release in grip.  Lower pressure (like in the 20's) will give you a much more progressive release.  (all this to aid in rotating the car).

What size tires did you get?  Are they staggered?  That will really change your setup.

Re: Newb to R-comps, need advice

This car is my daily driver, so for the sake of tire life I won't be running any toe.  Once I get the tire fitment dialed in (spacers, longer studs, etc as needed as I hear they will rub the struts in the rear on stock wheels) I'll be taking it to a local shop to get an alignment done.

I'll be running 225/45-17 V710s at every corner.  The seller said they tires are happy in the upper 20s and no higher than 34psi.  Someone who used to run a FWD Sentra locally said he would run the rears in the 50s so it would release for him.

Right now on street tires, Azenis, 225/45-17 with pressures set to 40 front 38 rear I have no issues getting the back end to release when I want it to.  I know R-comps are completely different, hence why I am asking for advice.

Pressure advice on 710's (in stock class cars) is all over the place from low 30's to high 40's.  On my CS miata, I saw big improvements when I upped the pressure from the low 30's to 38 to 39.  On the type R I run with a friend, we run 44 F and 58 rear (under avg. conditions).

A friend (Chuck Bower) bought some 225/45-17's for his MSP at the beginning of the season.  He asked me for pressure advice and I suggested he run the same pressure that we run in the Type R.  He proceded to beat me in raw time (for reference, I placed in the trophies at Nats last year). A 'meaningless' cone cost him the deserved win.  The next day he took top pax (out of a field of 160 people including many trophy winners), so I think the pressures I suggest are a good starting point.

This event was an eye opener for me in that I feel Chuck and I are equals and yet the MSP seemed superior to the Type R on that day.  He probably simply out drove me, but the MSP, despite being down on power, is a contender, esp. on the 'new' 710's on the 225/45 tire.

Try 1/8 toe out in the front and Zero toe in the rear it not for  bad tire wear. (I run a VW GTI )
