    The Z06 is Dead...July Fastrack

Moving the Exige S and the Elise SC into SS will kill the most fun car to drive in all of stock classes. IMHO

While the increase in power is only about 15 hp, it's right in the Lotus' weak spot...down low.  Now course differences won't matter.  They are taking a 1900 lb car with one weakness, that has already won Nationals, and replacing it with a car that has no weaknesses anymore.  Bye Bye Elise and Exige too...Maybe the GT3 can still compete in ProSolo....

    Long live the Z06...RIP.

Maybe I misread the Fastrack but I thought it said "for member comment."

I thought about starting this thread, but figured you'd get to it.  Smile

I agree, the current Elise is already very competitive.  Kiss SS goodbye after this year.  What about the 996 Turbo?  Too heavy?  Why even consider putting it in SS when we'll likely see almost none of them?

That's the general consensus.  Like the C6Z, it's just not been proven to be a good Stock autocross car.  It won't matter.

With this new proposal they might as well add back in the 914 since it was excluded for being too light for SS making SS the ultra light stock class....

Just how many Elise SC and Exige S's does Lotus sell here in the US?

    The sky isn't falling...

If you read between the lines in the fastrack:  There is a wholesale reorganization going on.  A lot of cars are getting moved down from DS to GS.  The ITR is going to BS.  If you look at it, they are trying to remove a class (DS).  Why would they do that?  Could it be to add another class at the top?  I think so.  Include some of the top excluded cars in SS.  See how fast they really are compared to the current SS cars and then split the class again along some performance line.  Where does the line go?  Who knows, it depends on how fast the new cars really are.

It seems more likely that the "new" D Stock is going to be for rally cars.

Which ones?  The really fast ones, the only sorta fast ones or the slow ones?

I read it that way too, but once again we're asked to comment on half of a proposed change without seeing the other half.

    That's stupid.

I think that some of the other half is going to be based on the performance of some of the new cars being introduced.  Those cars have a year to be reclassed so 'we' don't really get a say in how they are classed and then reclassed.  It'd be nice to know the direction that we are going down but realistically a lot of the decisions will be made around/after Nationals and then again around/after the 2009 Nationals.  The 2009 Nationals will be on a different lot, so that can influence classing decisions too.

Which bridge are you planning on jumping from, Scott?  And can you leave the keys to the Z in the car please?  thanks

Re: The Z06 is Dead...July Fastrack

The sky isn't falling.  In a perfect world both halves of the proposal would have been published at the same time.  Since all this work is done in our spare time as volunteers we couldn't get both sets done in time for July.  The July fastrack is our cutoff for making 09 changes and the SAC suggested to the SEB we wanted the options to make some moves based on results that haven't happened yet.  Nothing has been decided as the SEB or the SAC haven't yet heard from the membership.  Take what we have published and think about it.  Watch what unfolds between now and Nationals along with what comes out next month.  There will be lots of opportunity to communicate to the SAC and SEB what you would like to see happen.

Thanks Brian.  What I'd really like to see is you, Pat and Matthew decide to run STU at Nationals.  Big Smile  I'll wait till I see more from the next Fastrack before writing a letter.

BTW, congrats on a great and exciting performance at DC last week.  The most entertaining part of the entire running was watching you keep cutting your times as you nearly topped Matthew and Pat on your last 4 runs.

So, what you're saying is that the Integra Type R to BS isn't a typo?

Just ignore him...he now drives with his foot to the floor in ES saying, "Faster, Faster, Faster!"
