Yyou probably already know this, but in case you are new to autoXing...

It seems most Evos run in STU - and do very well. You get a much lower PAX and a few nice mods. And, you don't have to change wheels at the event. In my small experience I have never seen an Evo in AS.

One of our local guys in the Snake River Region runs his Evo in AS.  He ran it last year at the Salt Lake City Pro Solo and came in second in AS and then won the Pro Solo Super Hawk Super Challenge IIRC.

Re: Anybody Autocrossing an Evo in AS?

I have seen the Evos run AS here in houston and they used to do rather well on their street tires. Nobody really tried to do much more.

The STI has beter TQ but a well setup Evo in AS should do well nationally. I am thinking at least as competitive as the Boxster S I'm running now......so say a top 5 car.

As for tires....easily 245 Hoosiers and maybe the 275s would clear the fenders. If so I'd look into them :)

And maybe some trick shocks.....Motons or 2812s or ASTs or Penskes.

275s will clear the fenders, its the struts that get in the way.  I have to run 1/4 in spacers to keep the tires off the struts, and even then there is some rubbing still.  With that much added grip though, I think the car is still heavily undersprung, though it is possible a big ole front sway bar may help.

Here's the thread for stock class EVO's

And yes the front bar helps a little, especially in getting the rear back on the ground to get you back on the power sooner.  Also, I just switched to the Hankook 275/40s which are just a little less wide than the Kumho/Hoosiers, which seem to have reduced the rubbing.

Re: Anybody Autocrossing an Evo in AS?

Locally they do fine.  If I was going to prep mine for National competition, I'd get the custom Ohlins setup that Strano sells, do a big front bar, and 275 Hoosiers with the spacers.  I'm not sure whether the MR or the RS is the one to have.  The RS is lighter, but the MR has the 6-speed with a shorter 2nd gear.

The thing is, you've now spent a pretty big chunk of what it would take to put the car in STU, and you'll make up the rest in tires very quickly (I got 5 events out of my Hoosiers).  You have a car that is at best an also-ran (I now drive a Z0K.  The Evo would not keep up.) whereas in STU its one of the two cars to have.
