$450 Entry Fee for Lime Rock National!

    Damn!

I think Skip Barber is smoking something.  Will this be the last national there at this price?

WOW!!!! Everytime I try to atleast bring myself to not detest the place they go and do this. I really think with the rising price of fuel this may be one of the lowest suscribed nationals this year. I just hope the region doesn't lose too much money. For me it will depend on how I finish at the glen as to whether or not I go.

I was told two years ago that the day (one day) rental was $27,500.  Thats pretty steep for any region to hold races and they will take a huge loss with the current trend of low entries persists.

Two years ago 100 octane gas was $8.00 a gallon.

If that was 2 years ago it wouldn't surprise me if it's gone higher.

Not sure what the shock about the entry is all about, not exactly unknown that Lime Wreck is incredibly expensive to rent.

WOW, I *really* wish I did not have to do this race. LRP is doing a great job of alienating the people that brought it to fame.

The IT guys get the same practice / qualifying time,  and a LONGER race, yet their entree fee is $100 less at the same event? WTF?

I would love to hear somebody from the Northern New Jersey Region explain this to us...

I'm not from NNJR, but you need to read the schedule before cranking up your keyboard (again).  The Pro-IT cars don't get on the track at all on Friday while the National cars get two 22.5 minute sessions (the GCR-mandated 45 minutes).  The National cars get a five-minute warm-up Saturday morning, then a 30-lap race.  The Pro-IT cars get a single 15 minute qualifying session before lunch on Saturday, then a 45 minute race last thing Saturday afternoon (and that is subject to time left before 5:55 PM - if the National races run long the IT race gets cut).

Sounds pretty equitable to me, but then all I do is organize our events at Road Atlanta and Barber.  I also ask you to think about what the National entry fee would be if they weren't able to supplement their income with the Pro-IT drivers (and sponsors).

I stand corrected. I will edit my post above.

    Edit:

Let me just say I hope the weekend is a success for the sake of the NNJR region.

Re: $450 Entry Fee for Lime Rock National!

    From the Production Car website:

    Dear Participants

In an effort to help keep the cost of racing down given our high costs of operating at Lime Rock Park the NNJR board proposed the following sliding scale entry fee system.

Our present entry fee is $450. As a region we hope to break even for this event so we have proposed the following:

    180 cars $425
    200 cars $400
    220 cars $375
    240 cars $350
    260 cars $325

Please speak to your fellow competitors and let them know that they can come race at the repaved Lime Rock Park and hopefully help lower the entry fee. You will be charged the $450 rate to enter and then refund checks will be sent back to drivers if the desired car count is met. We feel that this is a fair an equitable system in the hopes of keeping our Lime Rock ParkNational event alive for years to come.

Here is our chance to make a difference.

    Sincerely,
    Robert Zecca

I applaud the effort, but the car counts are unrealistic based on what the general attendance at Nationals has been this year.  This isn't the NNJ Regions fault- it's Skippy's ridiculous track rental rate.  I can't imagine that we will have any more National racing at Lime Rock after this year. Especially with Thunderbolt in New Jersey coming on-line.

With car counts down so much, I think it's time for divisions to start looking at reducing the number of Nationals to get attendance up at the races that would remain on the calender.

Even better would be more double nationals, especially the way the Southeast Division runs their schedule.  3 days and two races reduces the towing miles, cost of towing gas, cost of motels, food, and time off of work.  VIR ran their first double national this year and it was great, especially that it ran in cooler spring weather than hot August.  The Southest Division keeps to the rule book for qualifying time and race distances and in the hot weather at Roebling Road they greet you at the end with an ice cold towell and bottle of water.
