I know this region used to run at the mississippi coliseum, and now no longer does.  I was wondering if anybody had look into Hawkins Field in Jackson.  Just throwing that out there; I know Skip has probably already look into it.  I'm not real familiar with Hawkins Field; I just know its an old military airport I think.  It might be too small but I just thought maybe a location in the Jackson Metropolitan area may be good for the region.

Hey i looked it up on Google Earth and here is what i saw.  Looks like prime SCCA material to me.  The rest of the area is nothing but grass and dirt fields by the runways.

Now only if we can rent the place out..

Looks a little too active to be a feasible site. 

Yeah It probably is too active, but I do agree getting the region a little further south would greatly benefit the program.  I know Jackson has tons of cars that would love to come out but won't because of gas, money, etc...  I think Gene should keep looking and maybe make some more phone calls for sure.

 

I haven't looked at Hawkins for several years. I went out there again today. I just don't see much hope.The one active runway and the number of FBO's (fixed base operators), as well as the number of private/business aircraft (100+) -----. The airport is operated by the Jackson Airport Authority and the Jackson City Council ---- can you work out how many people who have the right to say "no"?

I also went to John Bell Williams at Raymond - again ---too many aircraft- just not enough ramp space. I am also very familiar with Madison Airport - no hope/place there either. 

There is a proven procedure (which I will happily show to anyone) which has a lot better chance of a positive "yes" ----- as opposed to an "out of the blue" telephone call ---- which will almost always result in a "no"  -- OK, not a "no" but a " ----- NO!!!"

Got a possible site suggestion? ----all you have to do is call/email me. We can work our way through the process.

If you do it a the Metro Center we can incorporated some ramps for some sweet jumps.
