Head Gasket Change...what all I can do and still be in DSP

I have Integra GSR ...mildly modded..basic suspension stuff, Intake, header, exhaust etc.  As the title says, planning for a head gasket change. While doing it, what all I can do ( primararily to engine) and still be in DSP? I know that Cams are not allowed in DSP...

    Thanks a lot

You can start with the rule book. I wouldn't go beyond what's in the rulebook though.....

Gasket match the in/ex ports, blend no deeper than 1" from the face. The head can be skimmed up to the manufacturers limit, or .010" (doublecheck for accuracy) if no limit is shown in the FSM. That's pretty much it..... The headgasket must be same thickness as stock, so don't go crazy there.

Thanks...I didn't put the question very clearly....

I will be spending time for doing the head gasket......while doing it,  what else can be done?  what are the "most popular/bang buck"  engine mods for an Integra running in DSP? I have access to a buddie's shop who does work on Hondas.....

I think your question was clear, as was the answer.  Basically, when you read the rule book, if it does not say you can do something, you are not allowed to.  I think he pretty much covered what it allows you to do.  Not much.  Smile

Thanks for pointing to rule book....While I understnd some of what is said in the rule book, What I am trying to find out is that,  what all can be done wthin the rules, how effective they are?

Ex. It says vehicles with variable timing may use alternate computer calibeartion to adjust cam/ valve timing...Is this something that is done for an Inetgra Vtec in DSP?

     Thanks again

Re: Head Gasket Change...what all I can do and still be in DSP

Lets not confuse things here. Your original question is what can be done to the motor. Most of the items have been covered. I know the FSM doesn't have a limit to what you can deck the head to, so .010 is the allowed amount. (FSM says to replace the head if its warped out of spec) OEM thickness head gasket only. Gasket match 1" into the head (not necessary on the exhaust side, probably not necessary on the intake if you use the OEM intake). I'm waiting for clarification on the cam gears on VTEC engines, but for now I'd say they aren't legal. That is it for the head. The block, you can blue print  and balance (but not lighten) and neither of those are really necessary on a Honda IMO. Other then that, .047 overbore max, compression ratio and quench area of the piston cannot be changed from stock. ECU and intake manifold/tb/injectors are open. Underdrive pulleys, flywheel/clutch, header, catalytic and very little else.

Answering your ECU tuning question, yes, ECU tuning is worthwhile and beneficial on these cars. Especially if you can afford to run GT260 and crank the ignition timing way up.
