I'm definitely kicking myself for being cheap and purchasing R-S2's instead of the Z1's.

I wouldn't call .02 on the test track (and lower slalom speed) "smashing."
If you bought RS2s for anything other than daily driving you should be kicking yourself.

Re: New Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec smashes competition!
Daily driving? Who buys an extreme summer tire for daily driving? No, I bought it because it was an affordable summer tire that's more competant in the rain than rt-615's. To say it's only good for a daily driven tire is flat out false.

To answer your question who buys extreme tires for daily driving.. I DOOOOOO!!!! Cause i like to dip out whenever and wherever i suddenly get that itch.. I do admit it is a bit expensive my rear tires only lasted 6months but they saw a lot of autox, track time, highway and back road dipping action. So for $250 i have two new rear tires Star specs just installed about two hours ago thanks to Trey. My fronts are the Re 01Rs and they have plenty of tread left. Oh yeah and i ordered a new front lip to replace my cone damaged oem one. I dont know if that will get on before the event i will try cause i do have to get it painted first.

The chart isn't slalom speed, it's slalom time. So a lower time would equate to a higher average speed through the slalom. I do agree that "smashes" is a bit over the top though. You have to be wary of graphs that don't start at 0. It makes small differences look deceivingly larger. But every little bit helps. The real thing that I think the Dunlops have going for them is the considerably lower prices compared to some of the others, specifically the RE-01Rs and especially the Yokos.

Yes, but his comment was that if I bought the tires for anything OTHER than daily driving that I was wrong in purchasing them. I obviously drive the tires daily also, but daily driving wasn't my only agenda. I guess I should've worded things differently. What I should've said was "who buys a 200 treadwear tire to only use it for a daily driver and no autox's." If I were purchasing a tire for exclusively daily driving, I'd look for 300 treadwear and up.

Nope. Ironically considering the topic of this thread, I have no tires for autox at the moment. I'll probably be out of autox for the rest of the year. I also live in Huntsville now, so it's quite a trip to make, but I'll probably make it to at least a few MS region events next year.

Re: New Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec smashes competition!
Any of these four tires are great. We aren't professional drivers so the small differences won't matter that much. You will do fine in the RS2s.
Everybody might think I'm an idiot but just get out there and drive. It would be different if you were racing on a 300+ treadwear tire, but all these tires are 200 or less.

Re: New Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec smashes competition!
I agree. I am going from a 400 treadwear to a 140 and it is a different. But for me the biggest difference is on the highway and these terrible Mississippi roads. The car is more of a pleasure to drive which extremely outweighs what little advantage I may get on the course. Looking at the small difference in the tires I would definitely purchase the less expensive set.

RED2000S2000:I heard you also got a new car a corvette or was that a rumor? If so i understand probably why you dont have tires cause i can only imagine how expensive those would be for that car.
Hah, that was my plan a couple months ago. I decided to hold off on a new car for a while. For now I'm going to stick with my Civic. My next vehicle buy will probably be a motorcycle. Fun, less expensive to buy, and cheap on gas.

I am far from a professional driver, but I can tell you from personal experience, there is a HUGE difference between the RS2s and the Yokohamas.

My previous post actually answers that question. I wasn't saying I don't daily drive them(I dd and autox the tires), I was disagreeing with you saying that a 200 treadwear tire(the R-S2) is worthless for anything but daily driving.
