    DP at Nationals

One day left to register for Nationals without a late fee penalty.  Where are all the DP Cars?

Missing the Reeves.  Anybody know them and can contact them to see if they are coming.

    Tracy....I assume you will have a co-driver.  Get'em registered!

Ladies need to recruit...only 2 entries so far.

Anymore DP Cars hiding out there that need a little prodding?

    Ward-

Ramsey's got his hands full right now, I'll let him fess up why...

We were trying to recruit someone "not male" to drive DPL but that hasn't paned out yet.  Hopefully the rest of the class will fill out.

The Reeves have defected to STS2Angry

Doesn't look like Connie is going to drive this year.

    Re: DP at Nationals

That's too bad the Reeves left us for that really LOUD class.  I can't stand looking through a windshield anymore!  Hopefully the Wilson's will add their names to the list soon.  I kind of feel like there should be a bit of leeway this year on entry numbers since the economy has obviously taken it's toll on many classes at the Tours.  We've seen a drop in local registrations as well so this year might not be the best indication of class strength.

    Re: DP at Nationals

We SHOULD be making it with the Spyder.   Last weekend we blew out the final drive gear and some collateral damage.   Parts on order, should arrive by Thursday.   Worst case option is a new transmission, which I have a few sourced out if needed.

Hate to have to buy one to keep around though :(

Unfortunately, I don't think that is a good enough excuse.  Overall participation is only down 1-2%, which has no statistical impact on the minimum participation rule.  I'll also point out that several of the Prepared classes are showing growth over last year.

GP actually has 17 as of now.Tongue Tied

    Howdy,

Is the online entry list up to date?  That's showing 971 entries IIRC.  Are there normally a lot of entries after the late fees start hitting?

Haven't we been pulling 1200 folks for the last few years?

    Re: DP at Nationals

As far as GP goes, it's not really a new class, it the reclassing that has a larger group of already built vehicles to draw upon.  DP doesn't really have that kind of fallback, these cars are being built now, not drug from a dusty barn (not that there's anything wrong with that!)  I'm not sure where to buy a DP Miata/MR2 but I have seen a bunch of GP eligible cars on ebay over the last year.

My point is that attendance is down...the logic behind throwing any class aside based on a year when overall attendance at Nationals may be down just completely escapes me.  I'm not making excuses for anyone...

    Re: DP at Nationals

Maybe I've missed it, but I've not heard that anybody was going to throw DP aside after 2008.  I also have not seen in Fastrack any proposals for the dismantling or consolidation of DP for 2009.  If I read the rules correctly, a class must fall below 17 combined entries TWO YEARS IN A ROW before changes must be made.  DP made its numbers last year so I do not think the class is in Jeopardy.

So, where are all those drivers from last year?  Will all those people building car show up next year?  That is what we should be focusing on... which is how this topic kind of started off.

Oh, and I'll give you my official opinion regarding the minimum participation rule once I retire from the SEB Big Smile

    Re: DP at Nationals

I guess I wasn't specifically worried about DP, we should make 17...and I understand that there is a two year in a row rule before changes are made.  I'm more worried about the hobby as a whole because it's hard to attract people to the more dedicated classes when there's a fear of building a car that might not have a class when you finish.  I know where my DP car goes if DP were to expire.

There are DP drivers/cars that aren't making the trip this year, their reasons are unknown to me.  We'll be there and we'll continue to tyr and spread the sickness we've got to as many folks I can stuff into the driver's seat!

Well put.  Make sure you write a letter to the SEB at seb@scca.com and express your opinion of the minimum participation rules.  Strength in numbers!

    Re: DP at Nationals

Well, I know of at least a couple of new cars that won't be ready in time to make Topeka.  And another here in Florida that can't make the trip due to work schedules.

A potential business conflict has been trying to prevent me from making Nationals all summer.  Looks like I finally resolved it.  Also, higher fuel costs have a greater impact on Prepared and Mod cars that Street legal classes because many of the street legal cars will get driven to Nationals where few if any Prepared and Mod cars will be.  Towing is typically 2-3x more in fuel costs that driving.  This year my fuel bill will exceed $1000.  The first year I went to nationals my budget for the entire trip (regisration, hotel, fuel, food, etc...) was barely half that.

I had a female driver line up but she backed out a couple of months ago.

Zack hasn't got his MR2 in shape, that's one. My Miata isn't complete, that's two. Who else has a DP in the oven?

Well, Zack's was one.  There was another that I just can't remember right now.  Somebody that I was corresponding via email a couple of months ago.  Then there is Robert Belvoir in Orlando with a car that won't be there this year.  Probably next year though.

Did anybody notice that DP and GP run together?  Same days, same heat, same course.  I know the SEB often goups classes that they want to compare directly.  That gives the impression that the SEB is at least thinking about a possible consolidation at some point in the future.

I know of a possible Spyder being built, and some people in Milwaukee thinking about building a DP car..

That is all I can reveal...

That certainly makes my job easier, only having to cover two heats rather than four. Although having to interview the winners in two classes at once won't be as easy.

Could it also be that running together is to show how much difference there is between the two classes, that is against consolidation?
