    Congrats to Tim Smith!

I'd like to congratulate Tim Smith for taking the STS win this year!  Tim looked to be screaming fast on day two, and looked to be the only car in the class on Toyo tires. Tim would have won by a large margin if he didn't cone away his fast time on day one.  Tim's win should not be over shadowed by the DSQ controversy, so I'd like to make a separate thread to aknowlege such an awesome accomplishment as winning STS at the Solo nationals.  Great job, and hopefully I'll see you in Kansas next year.  (if they change our running days finally Rollseyes )

    Seconded.

Tim drove out of his mind on Day Two.  Probably a little conservative on Day One or he'd have walked away from the field.

I remember when Rick Ruth e-mailed me early this year asking "what's up with these STS guys in Atlanta?  Are they really THAT good?".  I said "yep, they really are".

Thanks to both of you. I am very excited about having won such a competitive class.  It is still a little surreal.  Thanks to all of the STS competitors that congratulated me on my driving, even before the "win".  You are a great bunch of guys.  Also, thanks to Andy for handling the situation before him like a true gentleman.

    YAY TIMMAY!!!!

    Team Toyo, y0!

I kept telling Tim after we were done on Day1 to not count himself out. Considering all the carnage that had happened previously on the East Course he was still in the hunt. When he finished his first run, even with the cone, I KNEW it was over.

Congrats Tim and thanks again for the ride. This week was EPIC.

Great job, Tim!  I was so far back I couldn't even see you guys (and that has nothing to do with HPT and where the grid was).

Thanks for saying nice things guys. It is becoming more difficult to be psyched about the "win" seeing and reading all of the controversy around it.  Even knowing that I did have the speed to win on BOTH days, I wish I just didn't hit a cone on my first or third runs.  It would have sealed the deal legitimately. I suppose this will all die down.

Congrats on the win. You (and your car) obviously like slaloms. Smile

BTW, did anyone else notice that Tim's car and mine seem to be the only ones who have the correct tires listed in the results?

    Re: Congrats to Tim Smith!

We are indeed quite lucky down here (ATL) to have such good local competition.  I love the fact that every local event has the kind of competition to push you.

Great job Tim.  Now, let's settle that Pro class points race.  :)

    Re: Congrats to Tim Smith!

Tim has been doing a GREAT job this year, and we're glad to have the STS Champion come from Atlanta, as I think we have the most competitive ST locals in the nation.  It's been an honor to compete against him as part of Team Moresome, as I know that the competition has made all involved better.  Congrats Tim!

    Re: Congrats to Tim Smith!

Indeed!  Congrats to Tim  Yes - his times were utterly amazing!-  No-one was even close to his scratches.  One thing I dislike about HPT is not being able to see the competition - at Forbes I would have been able to see the Andy & Tim shootout after my last run.  No way at HPT.

Tim, if you did video or Max-Q, could you post those so we can see just where we were slackin'? Embarrassed

It was great to talk to Tim for just a few in impound - very open about setup and the like.  Again - congrats on the STS win!  Only one repeat STS champ so far - how long will that go on?

    Re: Congrats to Tim Smith!

I do not have MaxQ.  I had a camera and mount with me but only just recently purchased it.  Not being used to setting it up and getting it on the car, I forgot each day.  I really wish I had.

Forget about the DSQ controversy, enjoy the moment.  YOU'RE the STS National Champion, and you won it legitmately, don't take anything away from yourself.  Winning STS at nationals is a big deal, I feel it's been one of the toughest classes to win probably the last five years.  As a sports fan I'm reminded of when the Pistons won the NBA title, and the story was more about how Koby and Lakers lost, than how the Pistons absolutely kicked their ass.  Don't let it be that way.  If anything you can take your confidence into next year knowing you had even more speed from coning the fast run in day two.

So the tire listings are wrong on the results page?  Were more people running Toyos?

    Thanks for the kind words.

My car was the only one on Toyos.  There was an STX car on Toyos.  Oh wait, that was also my car.

    Re: Congrats to Tim Smith!

Andy runs Toyos in the rear?  We actually run Toyo's up front, and 'stones on the rear.  More because my budget is small and my 'stones are still good than actual performance reasons.

If you run a hybrid setup like this, can you still collect contingency from the tire companies?

    Re: Congrats to Tim Smith!

no, the rulebook states that the same tire brand must be mounted on all corners to be eligible for contingency.

Tim, Nice job on the win. Was a pleasure being gridded next to you. Good to meet you and Brian......

For my first Nationals trip, it was interesting. :-) Oh....I never had the nerve to just lift on the little kink just before the lefthander to the slalom finish on day 2. Embarrassed Still tapped the brakes a little. Didn't matter, was dirty all day 2 anyway.

Hope to see you next year. Beer
